Join Laura, owner and operator of Fox Point Oysters, on a tour of Fox Point Oysters farm and learn about oyster farming first hand! Prepare to get salty and muddy as we dig into what life on the oyster farm is really like. We will be wading in to waist deep water to explore the farm, learn to shuck and choose your own dozen oysters to take home and enjoy. Tours last about 1-2 hours. participants must provide their own clothing and shoes. Old sneakers that tie tight or water shoes recommended.

Dates and times vary with the tides. Choose a time from the drop down menu. Kids under 12 just $45.

 

This product allows for up to 10 participants to join a tour.  If you prefer a private tour on a different date, please contact me and I will try to accommodate. Private tours start at $125/person.

Larger private parties are also welcome when available (price discounted for 10+ participants) . Please contact Laura to set up.

  • Specifics

    Participants will meet at the Scammell Bridge parking lot near Fox Point Oysters farm in Durham. Please see map in the CONTACT section of this website.

    The farm is located on a mud flat.  Participants will need to walk out to the farm. If mobility and strength are an issue, please contact Laura and we will arrange accomodations when possible.

    Specialty clothing is not provided. Spandex, swim trunks/shorts, tee shirts/sunshirts are recommended. Or waders if you have them. Clothing can get muddy, wet and salty. This is an immersive tour and participants will be in water from knees-waist. TIGHT FITTING SHOES ARE A MUST! MUST TIE TIGHT! NO SANDALS, SLIP ONS OF ANY KIND OR OPEN TOED SHOES OR RAIN BOOTS. Participants provide sunsceen, water, towels, change of cloting and must sign a waiver before the tour. 

    I will have gloves on hand. We will discover the wonders of the bay, learn about oysters and farming and harvest some to eat onthe spot! Or take your complimentary dozen home with you. Please bring a cooler with ice. You may purchase additional oysters at $18/dozen.
