About the event
Fox Point Oysters and the Market & Café at Emery Farm have teamed up to bring you a unique tour experience form land to sea. Learn about the business of oyster farming from the shores of Little Bay, NH. Continue the discussion at Emery Farm with shucking demonstrations and adult beverages while enjoying the beautiful Emery Farm setting.
This cost will include an on-shore tour/conversation led by Laura Brown, owner of Fox Point Oysters. She will discuss how Fox Point Oysters began, why oysters are both a healthy food choice and a keystone species for the bay. Oyster gear will be on hand to aid in discussions of oyster farming methods and how they relate to growing oysters for both human consumption and restoration efforts in Great Bay. The discussion will last about an hour. After the on-shore discussion, participants will drive one mile down the road to the Market & Café at Emery Farm where you will be treated to an ‘adult beverage’ of choice (alternative drink for children). A Market & Café team member will be on hand to welcome you to Emery Farm. Laura will continue the tour with a shucking demonstration and participants can ask further questions about oysters and shuck their own! Each participant will receive a half dozen oysters included with the tour. Shucking knives will be provided for the demonstration. Knives and additional oysters can be purchased to take home. Condiments are included with the tour and will be offered to pair with the delicious shucked oysters either on site or to take home.
Tour participants meet at the Scammell Bridge parking lot on Rte. 4 in Durham for the on shore tour before heading to Emery Farm.
